What are waffles and where do they come from?

A pastry made with yeast or non-expandable dough, that is a waffle. They are generally lattice-shaped and originated in Belgium and France. They can be eaten on their own or decorated with jam, chocolate cream, caramel, maple syrup, or fresh fruit. [The origin of waffles dates back to the early 14th century. They were a food for the poor of Belgium to celebrate the end of the harvest. The size of the waffle depended on the wealth of the village and the produce grown locally. Even then, however, the dough was baked on a griddle.

Tip: Waffles are perfect for a romantic breakfast in bed. Serve with fresh strawberries and dark chocolate and you have an aphrodisiac breakfast for your sweetheart.
